Back in full force in 2024 and registrations now open

Notre-Dame-du-Nord, November 6, 2023 – Barely two months after the resounding success of the 2nd edition, the Société de développement du Témiscamingue and the Témiscamingue Regional County Municipality (RCM) confirm the return in full force of the Témiscamingue Raid, in September 2024. By the same token, the territory renews for a third time its alliance with Endurance Aventure, a Quebec firm whose expertise in the management and broadcasting of outdoor sporting events is recognized worldwide.

Thrills, adrenalin and wild landscapes

Event promoters are promising an eyeful for athletes in this daring race, which will take place from September 5 to 8, 2024. Thrill-seekers, adrenalin junkies and wilderness enthusiasts will be blown away by an extraordinary route through the heart of the forest and on the waterways of the North Témiscamingue area, more specifically in the municipalities of Rémigny, Guérin, Notre-Dame-du-Nord and St-Bruno-de-Guigues.

Combining several disciplines (canoeing, swimming, cycling, trekking, running and several rope activities), the raid promises a spectacular course, over a distance of around 170 km and spread over three days. Immersed in untouched wilderness, raiders will have to rely solely on topographical maps and compasses to find their way, and two weapons they’ll need to master with confidence.

Opening of the registration period

The registration period for this international event begins today.

Athlete interest in the 2023 event has far exceeded the promoters’ expectations. Given this strong interest, a selection process will be applied. “In order to secure a place among the 25 teams in the 3rd edition, athlete duos will have to complete an application file and demonstrate their abilities and aptitudes to meet this challenge.”, says Jean-Thomas Boily, Director of Operations at Endurance Aventure.

The Témiscamingue Raid is the only stages race to be part of the Série mondiale de course d’aventure (Adventure Race World Series), an international series that specializes in adventure racing and brings together the best athletes from around the world. Last September, 7 teams from Témiscamingue achieved this feat alongside professional athletes from Brazil, Uruguay, Mexico, Finland and elsewhere in Canada.

To register, visit the Témiscamingue Raid website. Please note that registration closes on January 15, 2024. Following this, the analysis of the applications and the announcement of the 25 participating teams of the Témiscamingue Raid 2024 will begin.

Encouraging youth to discover and appreciate the great outdoors

This year again, the Témiscamingue Raid is back, offering local teenagers the unique experience of an international competition on their home turf. Surprised in 2023 by the enthusiasm generated among young people, the number of youth athletes will be increased from 50 to 100. On Friday, September 6, 2024, 50 teams made up of two young people aged between 13 and 17 will have to show perseverance and go beyond their limits in completing a race of some 20 km. Once again, each youth duo will be accompanied by an adult athlete taking part in the professional raid.

Over the coming months, the youth stage race will be promoted in schools through a promotional campaign, and registrations for this component will begin in spring 2024. In addition to promoting healthy lifestyle habits and the development of an outdoor culture, this initiative aims to encourage the involvement of young people in all aspects of an international event, whether as athletes or volunteers. Depending on their respective interests, young people will be able to join professional teams in TV production, photography, animation and security.

Strategic positioning for nature-adventure tourism and a global media showcase for Témiscamingue

For Témiscamingue, this major project is part of a collective desire to propel the territory to the forefront of adventure lands to explore. The return of the Témiscamingue Raid in 2024 confirms the commitment of local actors to showcasing the region’s wilderness and spectacular landscapes to outdoor enthusiasts the world over.

To promote the territory and its quality living environments, this opportunity is a must. “We’re working hard to put the Témiscamingue region on the Quebec, Canadian and North American map, both in terms of living environments and opportunities. Témiscamingue is a territory of excellence for the future, and the Témiscamingue Raid offers an exceptional showcase for all the potential we have to offer!”, says Claire Bolduc, Témiscamingue RCM Warden.

“In addition to the major economic spin-offs, this event is an incomparable strategic positioning tool for adventure-nature tourism in Témiscamingue. What’s more, the international visibility associated with this type of event provides the territory with a worldwide media showcase, far surpassing the scope of other promotional campaigns already undertaken.”, comments Daniel Bourgault, President of the Société de développement du Témiscamingue.

“Helping our organizations raise the profile of our regions internationally and serve as economic engines for our communities is one of our main priorities. That is why our government is highlighting the $827,500 in funding it is providing over three years for the Société de développement du Témiscamingue for this event. With this support, we are boosting the creation of good jobs and ensuring our regions grow from an economic and tourism perspective.,” mentioned the Honourable Soraya Martinez Ferrada, Minister of Tourism and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions.

As a rallying and mobilizing event, the Témiscamingue Raid intends to renew its close collaboration with local businesses and organizations, as well as with the Anichinabe communities, in synergy with the region’s driving forces.
